The origin and development of the Huang Tai Sin Temple Fair of Qishi. The Huang Tai Sin Temple Ancient Temple is located in the northwest of Qishi Town. It is close to Jinjiaozhiling next to the Dongjiang River. The ancient temple was built in the 12th year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1873) and was originally named Huang Xian Weng Temple. The birthday of Huang Taixian in Qishi is a festival for people to commemorate the “achievement of Taoism and becoming an immortal” of local celebrity Huang Runfu. The birthday period is from the fifteenth to the twenty-fiveth day of the seventh lunar month every year, and has a history of nearly 150 years.
Huang Runfu was compassionate in his life and sacrificed his life to the Tao. “Ascending to immortality” is just a legend. Although he made a living by farming, he also knew medical principles and practiced good deeds in the local area, and was highly respected by the villagers. Later, people donated money to build a temple to commemorate him. Today, the Hsin Shrine Wong Tai Sin Temple has become a well-known tourist attraction. Qishi Town has also used this to create a distinctive local folk culture brand, becoming an influential folk customs and cultural festival in Dongguan and even the Pearl River Delta region.
