Last weekend, on the third day of the third lunar month, the Northern Emperor’s Birth Fair of Xujiang Ancestral Temple was staged again.

Early in the morning that day, after the sacrificial ceremony, the Northern Emperor set out on a tour from Xujiang Ancestral Temple. The Northern Emperor’s honor guards were opened by “Sujing”, “Avoid”, “Zixiao Palace”, and “Xuantian God”, and “Cinema Northern Emperor” sat upright on a red sedan chair and paraded majesticly under the phrasing of the eight-tone gongs and drums. The parade was along the “Ancestral Temple – Guandi Temple – Cinema – Market Archway – Tour of the Babaylan Political Service Center – Longpo Park – Cultural Square”.

At the same time as the Beidi parade, 24 parade arrays including Quyi, Tai Chi Fan, Red Headscarf, Komiks, Dragon Boat and other reed bud local cultures, including Babaylan, Educational Class, and other educational Class. Located in Foshan, located in the heart of the Pearl River Delta, it used to be densely populated with water and frequent floods. Since ancient times, it was particularly popular to believe in the Northern Emperor. Every third day of the third lunar month, various temple fairs of the Northern Emperor’s birthday are held in Foshan. Today, a small-scale “ancestral temple” in Lubao, Sanshui, Foshan has preserved the oldest folk custom of the Beidi Birth Temple Fair.

Xujiang Ancestral Temple is located in the northern suburb of Lubao Town, Sanshui, facing Mount Hua and facing Beijiang. This “ancestral temple” hidden in Sanshui Town actually has a great background. According to historical records, the temple was built in the first year of Jiading in the Southern Song Dynasty (1208 AD) and has a history of more than 800 years. It is the oldest temple building in Sanshui, Foshan. It was listed as the provincial cultural relics protection list in 1989. It was ranked as the three most influential ancient temples in Guangdong Province, along with Yuecheng Longmu Temple and Foshan Ancestral Temple.

At the beginning of the temple building, villagers around Xujiang Ancestral Temple spontaneously organized the “Northern Emperor’s Birth” temple fair, and this custom activity has been well continued and passed down among the people of Lubao. Why did the statue of Beidi in the small village temple in Guangzhou go back to Sanshui Lubao to participate in the event? According to legend, in 1908, cholera occurred in Nanwan Village, Huangpu, Guangzhou. He sought medical treatment everywhere and asked for medicine. His health did not improve, but the villagers had no solution. It happened that a man from Sanshui Lubao worked as a long-term worker in Nanwan Village. Seeing this, he said that the Beidi of Lubao’s ancestral temple was very energetic and suggested borrowing the statue of the Emperor of the North to tour the village. The patriarchs immediately sent several young people from the village to head straight to the Xujiang Ancestral Temple in Lubao.

The Northern Emperor Lu Bao was invited. The elders in the clan ordered every family to sacrifice, every household burned incense, knelt down solemnly, and then carried the statue of the Little Northern Emperor around the village. It’s strange that not long after Cinema, the symptoms of diarrhea of ​​the sick villagers gradually disappeared. After the plague was eliminated, everyone could not argue over the stay or leave of Emperor Xiaobei. By all kinds of chances, the statue of the little Beidi finally stayed in Nanwan Village, and it took a hundred years to stay. However, the villagers of Nanwan Village were grateful and specially hung a wooden plaque “Lu Bao Bei Di” in the Ancient Dragon Guarding Temple, which enshrines Xiao Beidi to show that future generations will not forget the blessing of Lu Bao Beidi.

In 2013, a person who was enthusiastic about Lu Bao went to Nanwan Village to travel. He saw Lu Bao Beidi at the Hulong Ancient Temple and actively helped him to return to Lu Bao to visit his relatives. At the Beidi Birth Temple Fair in 2014, the little Beidi, who had been borrowed for a hundred years, returned to Xujiang Ancestral Temple to “visit relatives” for the first time under the escort of the villagers in Nanwan Village.
